Help Save Health Care Reform!
It’s not quite dead yet! Please read this if you want to help save this reform:
Leading Democrats in the House still insist that “all options are on the table” to move ahead on health care. But for the first time since last Tuesday’s special election in Massachusetts, it’s clear that they’re coalescing around the most widely discussed option: moving ahead with the Senate bill once it’s clear that it will be changed through the filibuster-proof reconciliation process. Before they can move ahead, they need the Senate to make some real headway on their end of the bargain–and they’re not getting the signs they need.
“I thought we could get the votes in the House to pass the [Senate] bill if fixes to the Senate bill can be done,” House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-SC) told reporters today.
“That would be a good option as far as I’m concerned,” said Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), leader of the House progressives’ health care task force. “I could support it. Reconciliation. Majority rule.”…
The hang up, they now say, is not on their end, but that they first need a high sign from the Senate that the two chambers can work in lockstep.
Unfortunately, our local Northfield Republican Representative won’t be of any help, but I urge each of you to call and/or email our two Democratic MN Senators, and ask them to actively fight for a side bill that will allow the House to pass the Senate HCR bill as-is, and render the 60-vote filibuster rule irrelevant.
I’m told that calling is better, and faxing a letter is best. I recommend doing all of the above.

Happy Holidays!!!
Joey’s now sitting up unsupported (at least, she CAN sit unsupported). One of her favorite games is to kiss Maggie. She also loves to watch Maggie catch a ball. When Joey is very excited, she does an adorable squeal-kick combination. Needless to say, Maggie gets the biggest squeal-kick of all. Here’s Joey in the middle of a squeal-kick:

Joey’s eating lots of foods now. Here’s a list of her favorites:
sweet potato (from a jar)
pear (sucked from the core of Mommy’s pear)
marinara (inserted on end of pacifier)
and of course, avocado+banana
Joey had a great Christmas – and it’s not over yet! We’re heading out to Connecticut tomorrow to see Grandma, Grandpa, and Uncle Matt. We did Christmas in Eau Claire a week and a half ago. The highlight was the Christmas photo. In the past, Patrick’s parents have wanted the two of us to join them for their Christmas photo. Not this year! All they wanted was a picture with Joey.

We also took pictures of Joey under the tree. She wouldn’t sit up, because the ornaments were far more fun to look at while lying under them. [click on this last picture to see the full version]

Sitting in her crib. Sitting is the new lying down; while she wants to do it all the time, she can’t yet sit freestyle. But she’s working hard at building those muscles!

Rice cereal, take 2
Some of you may have heard about the first rice cereal attempt, which Did Not Go Well. Now, a month later, I’m trying again. Here’s how she looks just after eating some (I think SOME made it in). We’ll see in a bit whether it’s tolerated this time…
